The DENON HC 1000s
Posted on: Friday, 25 November 2011 14:27 by Site Admin
Here we have the MIGHTY Denon HC-1000's Midi Controller that we felt deserved a brief but honest review.
Richie has been lucky enough to have been using one of these for a few years now, and after many many many hours of button bashing, knob twiddling, dropping, sandstorms, confetti and even the odd beverage making its way onto it, its still going strong!
Out the Box:
Straight out the Box you can appreciate the build quality in this piece. It hits you as soon as it’s in your hands. Surrounded in a solid metal casing and this bad boy is HEAVY you know this unit is built for miles, rather than metres.

BPM Show 2011 Birmingham
Posted on: Thursday, 06 October 2011 12:53 by Site Admin
Its the time of year when all Geeky DJ's / Producers and general Tech Heads, Convoy up to Birmingham NEC, to pay homage to the industry of delightful DJ'ing.
The BPM Show has been leading the way in this market, managing to bring together all the best bits of the vast spectrum that is 'the industry' and cherry pick the best brands, organisations, DJ's, promoters and product showcases and demo's to make this show, an ESSENTIAL date in your busy calendar.
DJ Richie Don was showcasing the Citronic MPCD-X3 CD Player, combined with a nice little SMFX-200 Mixer and had a 45 minute set to show off the functionality of these tools.
Now having always used Serato Scratch Live with a Denon HC 1000's Controller Richie couldn't use JUST CD's for this, as his cue points and functionality of Serato were too valuable to lose in the demo. (He commented) But never the less we believe Citronic were happy with the outcome.
Richie commented: 'I LOVE the ability of these CD Players, and managed to scratch quite well. The mixing part was great, with the + and - buttons really speeding up and slowing the down the tracks, to beatmatch with ease and extremely fast!
If honest not having an adjustable resistance on the jog wheel made things a bit tricky, as my sausage fingers kept catching the wheel and throwing my mixes out, BUT the space was very confined so imaging this is easy to fix. (get a bigger desk lol)
The Mixer was EPIC!, Cross fader nice and crisp, great to scratch with, all adjustable aspects worked perfectly (volume / cross fader curve etc) and effects were nice and simple to use. One thing that is apparent straight out the box is the quality of sound this mixer produces. Absolutely STUNNING! At high volumes there is zero distortion, and even at low volumes you really get a feel for the deep bass, sharp mids and crisp top end frequency's. 9/10
All in all I would DEFINITELY recommend these products to any up and coming DJ looking to upgrade his equipment, and for a traveling DJ, or someone who tours with their equipment would say this is an ideal solution. 8.5/10
(Note: This demonstration set will be available as a download on Podcast 61 for those interested.)
The Highlight if the show was DEFINITELY a Set from the Pioneering Man himself.... The Reason why we all DJ today! - Grand Master Flash was in the house and He SMASHED IT!
Showing why experience will always have the upper hand, you imaging trying to play a set to 400/500 talented DJ's, and connecting with every one of them.
He showed why he still and always will 'have it' playing a varied set from Hip Hop, Pop, Dubstep, Drum and Bass. He discussed the music rather than just playing it, which went down very well.
All the Big Brands were there, Pioneer, Citronic, Denon, Serato, Ableton, DMC etc etc, as well as the traders and product innovators trying out BPM for the first time. Its the best hands on show there is, and we look forward to more major involvement for 2012!
We will let you know what stands were at, and what times real soon.
Force FM's Final Transmission
Posted on: Thursday, 06 October 2011 12:39 by Site Admin
After 17 years of AMAZING service is has been decided that Force FM (http://www.forcefm.net) and 106.5FM will cease to broadcast. Should you now try the website to login and listen to the station all you see is this closing statement:
'After a remarkable 17 years of service, we regretfully announce that Force FM has ceased broadcasting. Started in 1994, the station has notched up a remarkable 17 years of transmission, making it arguably the UK's longest serving pirate radio station.
We would like to thank all of the listeners, DJs, hosts, vocalists and everyone else behind the scenes that made Force the great station it will always be remembered as.
Force FM has not been sold and will not be replaced. This really is the end. Respect and love, the Force FM team'
Read between the lines how you wish, but what is FACT, is that the station produced many household names that we know and love today. Many went onto professional radio, toured the world and made it, as well as many up and coming artists cutting their teeth on their first radio show.
Personally I think the competition from internet radio and other stations trying to copy the same formula had a result, diluting the 'MAGIC' of pirate radio. This resulted in the demise of many pirate stations, and no doubt more will follow this lead.
Force FM - leaves a huge hole that will be hard to be filled, and many DJ's now scratching their head as to the next step in their career's.

I don't know if any of you have heard of him before but he is now starting to get a big name for himself and a very good reputation.
He is a superb DJ and plays with some big names and also works for the UK Pimp My Ride crew (because his mate owns the garage that does it) with Westwood and co.
Anyway it doesn't seem long ago that we both used to spin tunes in our rooms but boy has he done well, even has his own CD in all the major stores :)
Anyway here is a little sample of his work, but please remember it doesn't show his true skills as its hours and hours into 1 video without showing his mixing talent.
